アフリカまき (アフリカ槙) [Index] [Back] アフリカの東北部、エチオピアからケニア、タンザニアそしてウガンダに分布しています。標高１８００～２４００メートルにある山地の林に生え、高さは２０～４０メートルになります。葉は螺旋形につき、披針形で長さは２～６センチです。球果は球形で、直径２センチほどの種子が薄い多肉質の種皮に被われています。東アフリカでは重要な材木用樹種で、建築や合板、床材、家具などに利用されます。 マキ科マキ属の常緑高木で、学名は Podocarpus gracilior (syn. Afrocarpus gracilior)。英名は Musengera、Fern pine。 Musengera (Podocarpus gracilior) belongs to the family Podocarpaceae. It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to northeastern Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This tree grows in Afromontane forests at 1800-2400 m altitude, and can reach 20-40 m in height. The leaves are spirally arranged, lanceolate, 2–6 cm long. The seed cones are globose, with a single 2 cm diameter seed with a thin fleshy coating.
