The "Ezono-charumeru-so" (Mitella integripetala) belongs to Saxifragaceae (the Saxifrage family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Hokkaido and northern Honshu in Japan. It grows in moist areas within deep mountain forests and reaches a height of 20 to 25 cm. The rhizome is slender and creeping, and the plant reproduces by producing thin stolons. The leaves are triangular-ovate, with a heart-shaped base; the margins are usually shallowly 5-lobed and have sparse serrations. The upper surface of the leaves is sparsely hairy. From around May to June, it extends a flower stalk bearing a raceme at the tip, producing small reddish-purple flowers. There are five petals, which are needle-like and linear and do not split.
