アビウ [Index] [Back] 南アメリカのアマゾン川流域が原産です。湿潤な地域に生え、高さは１０〜３５メートルになります。葉は長楕円形から楕円形で、長い葉柄があります。花は白色から緑色を帯び、朝に開いて２日ほど咲き続けます。果実は円形から卵形で、黄色をしています。果肉は半透明の白色で、甘くてゼリーのような食感があります。十分に熟した果実はそのまま食べられるか、シャーベットやアイスクリームのなかに入れられます。 アカテツ科アカテツ属の常緑高木で、学名は Pouteria caimito。英名は Abiu。 The Abiu (Pouteria caimito) belongs to the Sapotaceae (the Sapote famil). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to the Amazonian region of South America. This tree grows in humid region and can reach 10-35 m in height. The leaves are oblong to elliptic with long petioles. The flowers are white to greenish, open in the morning and can stay open for about two days. The fruits are round to ovate and a yellow color. They have white translucent, sweet, and of jelly-like fleshes.
