中国の四川省南西部から雲南省、それに南西アジアに分布しています。高さは９〜１２メートルほどになり、コンパクトな樹冠を形成します。葉は革質で、若いうちは大きく３裂します。緑色がかった小さな花が咲いたあと、真っ赤な翼のある目立った果実をつけます。中国語では「金沙楓（jin sha feng）」と呼ばれます。

カエデ科カエデ属の常緑小高木で、学名は Acer paxii。英名は Pax's maple、Evergreen maple。

The Pax's maple (Acer paxii) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is distributed from southwestern Sichuan to Yunnan in China and Southwest Asia. The height is about 9 to 12 m, forming a compact canopy. The leaves are leathery and split into three when young. After the small greenish flowers bloom, they bear prominent fruits with bright red wings. In Chinese, it is called "金沙楓" (jin sha feng).
