Dark-stemmed sneezewort (Achillea atrata) belongs to the Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Alps. This herb grows in stony pastures, rocky places and screes, usually on limestone, 1700-3000 m elevation, and can reach 10-25 cm in height. The stems are brown-hairy. The leaves are deep green, bipinnate compound with narrow lance-shaped lobes. The flower-heads are 12-18 mm across and bloom in clusters of 2-10 from July to September.
