ヨーロッパアルプスの東部からバルカン半島に分布しています。標高１５００〜２５００メートルの山地草原に生え、高さは１５〜２０センチになります。根生葉は２回羽状複葉で、茎葉には鋸歯があり無柄です。夏、茎頂に散房花序をだし、白色の頭花を咲かせます。種小名は、イタリアの薬理学者ニコロ・キアヴェナ（Niccolo Chiavenna）に因みます。

キク科ノコギリソウ属の多年草で、学名は Achillea clavenae。英名は Silvery yarrow。

Silvery yarrow (Achillea clavenae) belongs to the Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the eastern Alps and the Balkan Peninsula. This herb grows in upland meadows at an elevation of 1500-2500 m and can reach 15-20 cm in height. The basal leaves are bipinnately compound and the cauline leaves are sessile and denticulate. The corymbs are borne on the stem apices and produce white flowerheads in summer. The specific epithet honors Italian pharmacologist Niccolo Chiavenna. (edit by Greg Brockelbank)
