アフリカ東部、エキオピアからマラウイが原産です。高さは７０〜１００センチになります。葉は直立し、薄くて剣状です。芳香があり白色で咽にえび茶色の斑紋がある花を、夏の終わりから秋の初めに咲かせます。世界中で広く栽培されています。以前はアキダンテラ属に分類されていました。

アヤメ科グラジオラス属の多年草で、学名は Gladiolus murielae (syn. Acidanthera bicolor var. murielae)。英名は Abyssinian gladiolus、Fragrant gladiolus。

The Abyssinian gladiolus (Gladiolus murielae) belongs to Iridaceae (the Iris family). It is a perennial herb that is native to eastern Africa, from Ethiopia to Malawi. It grows up to 70-100 cm in height. The leaves are upright, thin and sword-like. The fragrant white flowers with a maroon blotch in the throat bloom in late summer and early fall. It is widely cultivated around the world. It was formerly placed in the genus Acidanthera.
