中央アメリカおよびメキシコ、コロンビアそれにベネズエラが原産です。ふつうは着生植物ですが、たまに地面に根を下ろすものを見ることができます。花の時期、高さは９０〜２００センチになります。葉は８０〜１２０センチの長さ、縁にはとげ状の鋸歯があり、基部は重なり合って、雨水のタンクを形成しています。円錐花序は直立し、長さは５０〜１５０センチあり、鮮やかな赤色の苞がつきます。写真は、変種の「ルブラ（var. Rubra）」。 |

Aechmea bracteata belongs to the Bromeliaceae (the Pineapple family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to Central America, Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela. It is an evergreen herb that is usually an epiphyte, sometimes found rooted in the ground. This herb can reach a height of 90-200 cm in flower. The leaves are 80-120 cm long with spiny-toothed edges and overlapping basally and and forming a "tank" of rainwater. The panicle is erect, 50-150 cm long, with bright red bracts. |
