Aechmea bracteata belongs to the Bromeliaceae (the Pineapple family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to Central America, Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela. It is an evergreen herb that is usually an epiphyte, sometimes found rooted in the ground. This herb can reach a height of 90-200 cm in flower. The leaves are 80-120 cm long with spiny-toothed edges and overlapping basally and and forming a "tank" of rainwater. The panicle is erect, 50-150 cm long, with bright red bracts.
