南アメリカ、ブラジルの南東部に分布しています。熱帯雨林に生え、直径１メートルほどに広がります。葉は緑色で褐色の斑があり、鮮やかなピンク色に変わります。花茎を伸ばし、目立たない花を咲かせます。ハミングバードによる鳥媒花です。

パイナップル科エクメア属の常緑多年草で、学名は Aechmea pectinata。英名はありません。

The Aechmea pectinata belongs to Bromeliaceae (the Pineapple family). It is an evergreen perennial that is found in South America and southeastern Brazil. It grows in tropical rainforests and spreads to about 1 m in diameter. The leaves are green with brown patches that turn bright pink. The flower stalks grow and produce inconspicuous flowers. The flowers are bird-pollinated by hummingbirds.
