The Aeschynanthus javanicus belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Java, Indonesia. It grows on trees in tropical rainforests, and has a long, spreading vine stem. The leaves are small, ovate, and opposite. Vermilion-red tubular flowers covered with short hairs bloom in inflorescences at the ends of branches all year round.
