アメリカの南東部、アラバマ州からジョージア州、それにフロリダ州北部に分布しています。山地の森林や渓谷に生え、高さは２～４メートルになります。株もとから多数の幹がでて、低く横に広がる樹形になります。葉は掌状複葉で、小葉は倒卵形で５～７個つきます。６月から７月ごろ、円筒形の円錐花序をだし、白色の花を咲かせます。果実は、洋なし形の蒴果です。庭木としても栽培されています。種小名はラテン語で「小さな（parvus）」＋「花（flos）」に因みます。

トチノキ科トチノキ属の落葉低木で、学名は Aesculus parviflora。英名は Bottlebrush buckeye、Small-flowered buckeye。

The Bottlebrush buckeye (Aesculus parviflora) belongs to Hippocastanaceae (the Horse-chestnut family). It is a small deciduous tree that is found in the south-east of the Unuted States, from Alabama to Georgia, plus northern Florida. It grows in mountain forests and valleys and is 2-4 m tall. The tree has a low, horizontal spreading form with many trunks arising from the base of the plant. The leaves are palmately compound, with 5-7 small obovate lobes. From June to July the plant produces cylindrical panicles with white flowers. The fruit is a pear-shaped capsule. It is also cultivated as a garden tree. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin words "parvus" (small) + "flos" (flower).
