The Aeschynanthus pulcher belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Java. It is an epiphyte and grows 10 to 30 cm tall. The blue-green leaves are leathery, thick, ovate, and opposite. Flowering season is irregular. The flowers are tubular with a reddish-orange corolla and brown sepals underneath.
