The Aeschynanthus tricolor belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native from the Malay Peninsula to Sumatra and the Sarawak Island. This shrub is epiphyte that usually grows on the tree trunks or rocks, and droops down its long branches. The leaves are ovate, leathery and arranged in opposite. The small, red, labiate flowers bloom at the axils and branch tips all year round.
