メキシコ中部の山地に分布していますが、自然にはまれにしか見ることができません。木立を形成して、高さは１．５メートルほどになります。花は１０年以上成長してから。２〜４メートルもある花茎を伸ばして、総状花序に黄緑色の花を咲かせます。園芸上は「はつみどり（初緑）」と呼ばれます。

リュウゼツラン科リュウゼツラン属の常緑多年草で、学名は Agave ttenuata。英名は Fox tail agave、Swan's neck agave 。

Fox tail agave (Agave ttenuata) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in the mountains of central Mexico, though it is rare in nature. This succulent herb form clumps and can reach about 1.5 m in height. Blooms only when the plant is 10 years old or more. The flower stalks are 2-4 m in height with yellowish-green flowers on racemes.
