Upright bugle (Ajuga genevensis) belongs to the Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Europe. This herb grows on wood edges, thickets and grasslands, and can reach 10-30 cm in height. The stem is upright and the leaves are obovate with long stalks. The violet-blue flowers bloom in dense, terminal, spike-like inflorescences from April to August. The flowers have short upper-lips with protruding stamens and pistil.
