カエデ科カエデ属の落葉高木で、学名は Acer mono var. mayrii。英名はありません。
"Aka-itaya" (Acer mono var. mayrii) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is an endimic species of Japan, distributed northward from the Japan Sea Side of San-in district of Honshu to Hokkaido. This tree grows in the mountains and up to a height of 20-25 m. The leaves are usually shallowly divided into five partite lobes and have long petioles. The small yellow flowers will bloom in racemes at the end of the branch around May. The Japanese name is because new growths and petioles are reddish.
