マツ科マツ属の常緑高木で、学名は Pinus densiflora。英名は Japanese red pine。
The Japanese red pine (Pinus densiflora) belongs to Pinaceae (the Pine family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu of Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and south-east China. This tree grows in hillsides to mountains and can reach about 30 m in height. The barks are reddish brown and hexagonal fissured. The leaves are needle-like and two par bundle with sheaths at the bases. The blooming season is April to May, and the strobiles ripen in next year's September to November. In Chinese, it is called "赤松" (chi song).
