	わが国の北海道南部から本州、四国・九州それに朝鮮半島や中国、ウスリーに分布しています。明るい雑木林などに生え、高さは５～１０センチになります。葉は先端が尖った心形で、花期にはほとんど展開していません。４月から５月ごろ、花柄を伸ばして、紅紫色から淡紅紫色の花を咲かせます。距は太く、ぼってりとしています。中国語では「遼寧菫菜（liao ning jin cai）」と呼ばれます。韓国語では「コッカルチェビコッ（고깔제비꽃）」です。これは「コッカル（고깔）」＋「スミレ（제비꽃）」の合成語です。「コッカル」とは朝鮮の伝統的な円錐形の帽子や三角頭巾などを意味する言葉で、葉が完全に開く前の丸まった様子が似ていることから名付けられました。
	スミレ科スミレ属の多年草で、学名は Viola rossii。英名はありません。
	The "Akebono-sumire" (Viola rossii) belongs to Violaceae (the Viola family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from southern Hokkaido to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China and Ussuri. This herb grows in open brushes and can reach 5-10 cm in height. The leaves are heart-shaped with acute tips and little or nothing foliating in flower season. The magenta to pale magenta flowers bloom on the long peduncles from April to May. The spurs are thick and meaty. It is called "遼寧菫菜" (liao ning jin cai) in Chinese. In Korean, it's called "go-kkal-je-bi-kkot" (고깔제비꽃). This is a compound word consisting of "go-kkal" (고깔) and "violet" (je-bi-kkot: 제비꽃). "Go-kkal" is a term referring to traditional Korean conical hats and triangular headscarves; it was named for its resemblance to the curled shape of leaves before they fully unfurl.
