"Akebono-zasa" (Pleioblastus argenteostriatus cv. Akebono) blongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an evergreen bumboo that is a horticultural variety of "Ochina-dake", which is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. The height of the stick is 20 to 50 cm, and the new leaves are tinged light purple-white from early spring to early summer. In summer, they turn green. The Japanese name refers to this virescent white spots, which is a metaphor for the ever-changing akebono (dawn).
