アメリカとカナダの西部に分布しています。乾燥した斜面や平原などに生え、高さは１０〜３５センチになります。鱗茎は小さな球形で、たまねぎのような香りがあります。葉は、長く狭い線形で根生します。花はピンク色から紫色で、葉が枯死した後にでる長い花茎につきます。花は４月から７月に咲きます。

Tapertip onion (Allium acuminatum) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Western United States and Canada. This herb grows in dry slopes and plains, and it can reach 10-35 cm in height. Its bulbs are small and spherical and smell like onions. The leaves are long, narrow linear, and basal. The flowers are pink to purple on a long flowering stalk which appear after the leaves have died. They bloom from April to July.
