マダガスカル島の固有種で、南部から南西部に分布しています。樹木状になり、高さは９メートルほどになります。幹は大きく３〜４個に分枝し、多くの小枝がでています。また多くの棘が生えています。葉は卵形で、毎年おなじところからでます。小さな黄色がかったピンクの花を咲かせます。園芸上は「ひめふたつばかなぼう（姫二つ葉金棒）」と呼ばれます。

カナボウノキ科アルアウディア属の多年草で、学名は Alluaudia comosa。英名はありません。

The Alluaudia comosa belongs to the family Didiereaceae. It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of Madagascar Island, and distributed from the south to the southwest. This herb becomes a tree shape and its height is about 9 m. The trunk branches to 3 to 4 large, many twigs are on. Also many spines are growing. It blooms small yellowish pink flowers.
