アメリカの中部、サウスダコタ州からテキサス州にかけて分布しています。大草原や牧草地などに生え、高さは１０〜３０センチになります。葉は扁平な線形で束生します。４月から６月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして散形花序をだし、白色からピンク色、淡紅色の花を咲かせます。シャイアン（Cheyenne）の人々は、葉を茹でて肉の香りづけに、また鱗茎を食用にしたそうです。

ユリ科ネギ属の多年草で、学名は Allium drummondii。英名は Drummond's onion、Wild garlic、Prairie onion。

The Drummond's onion (Allium drummondii) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to the central United States; southward from South Dakota to Texas. This herb grows in prairie or meadows and can reach 10-30 cm in height. The leaves are flat linear and fasciculate. The umbels come on the stalks and bloom white, pink to pale rose-pink flowers. The Cheyenne people had been used for spicy herbs and foods.
