南アメリカのエクアドルが原産です。標高１２００〜１７００メートルに生え、潅木状になります。葉は卵形で縁には細かい鋸歯があり、裏面は紫褐色をしています。葉のつく節から、花梗をのばして黄色い筒状花を咲かせます。萼は総苞状になり緑色です。異名で「アロプレクツス・フィンブリアツス」とも呼ばれます。

イワタバコ科アロプレクツス属の常緑小低木で、学名は Alloplectus purpureus（syn. Alloplectus fimbriatus）。英名はありません。

Alloplectus purpureus belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Ecuador. This tree grows in mountains at 1200-1700 m elevation and grows shrubby. The leaves are ovate with fine toothed edges and the reverse sides are purplish brown. Yellow tubular flowers with long peduncles come on the foliaged nodes. The sepals are green and bract-like.
