The Ornamental onion (Allium schubertii) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from southern Turkey to Jordan and Libya. It grows in open mountain forests, grasslands, and agricultural fields, mainly in subtropical biomes, and is 30-60 cm tall. The leaves are 30-40 cm long, blue-green, cordate, and basal, and begin to wither by the time the plant starts to flower. The flowers are small and star-shaped, and are borne on the tips of long peduncles. The stipe of a fertile flower is less than 10 cm long, while that of a sterile flower is less than 20 cm long. After flowering, the dried inflorescences eventually break off from the withered stems and are tumbled by the wind, scattering seeds.
