The String of watermelons (Senecio herreanus) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to Namibia in Africa. It grows in deserts and dry shrub zones. The stem is long and vine-like, reaching about 30 cm in length. The leaves are long and narrow, almond-shaped, about 1 cm long, and light green with vertical lines. The vertical lines on the leaves are transparent, allowing light to pass through to the inside, helping the inner cells to carry out photosynthesis. In summer, it produces a capitulum and white flowers. The flowers are tubular flowers, and the anthers protrude from the outside.
