The Alocasia x amazonica belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is a horticultural hybrid of "Alocasia sanderiana", native to Mindanao Island in the Philippines, and "Watsonia", a horticultural variety of "Alocasia sanderiana", native to China and East Asia. The specific epithet comes from the "Amazon Nursery" in Florida, the Unites States. The leaves are slender arrow-shaped, up to 60 cm long, and dark green with distinct white veins and jagged leaf margins. This species has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award for Garden Merit.
