アフリカの南部にあるナミビアの北・中部に分布しています。非常に乾燥した石灰岩質の砂地に生えます。葉は灰色の蝋質の粉に被われています。３月から４月のわずかな雨の降る時期に、花茎を伸ばしてピンク色がかった赤色の花を咲かせます。園芸上は「野州錦（やしゅうにしき）」と呼ばれます。

ユリ科アロエ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Aloe asperifolia。英名はありません。

The Aloe asperifolia belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial that is found in northern and central Namibia in southern Africa. It grows in very dry limestone sandy soil. The leaves are covered with a gray waxy powder, and during the few rainy months of March and April, the flower stalks grow and produce pinkish-red flowers. Horticulturally, it is called "Yashu-nishiki" in Japan.
