The Aloe calcairophila belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial that is found in the central part of Madagascar, in the Fianarantsoa province. It grows on limestone soil and has dark green leaves in two rows. The leaves have sharp serrations on their edges. The flower stalks grow long and produce urn-shaped white flowers that are reddish in bud and urn-shaped when open. The specific epithet is derived from the words "calcair" and "-phila," which means "lime" and "dear" respectively.
