南アフリカ、ナミビアが原産です。アロエ属の中では最も大きくなるひとつで、高さは１０メートルほどになります。花期は冬で、茎頂から総状花序をだし、黄色い花を咲かせます。多肉の茎は水タンクの役割をして、雨がなくても１年以上生きることができます。現地では、このくり抜いた枝を矢筒として使うそうです。和名では「たかろかい（高蘆薈）」と呼ばれます。

ユリ科アロエ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Aloe dichotoma。英名は Quiver tree、Kokerboom。

Quiver tree (Aloe dichotoma) belongs to the Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to South Africa and Namibia. This aloe is one of largest tree aloe and can reach about 10 m in height. The racemes are borne on the shoot apex, and bloom yellow flowers in winter. The stems are succulent and serving water tank. It is alive over one year without rain. The hollowing out branches are used for quivers by the native Africans.
