南アフリカのケープ地方南西部に分布しています。岩の多い丘陵や山地の斜面に生えます。茎は非常に短く、葉は灰緑色で、ぼんやりとした縦縞と縁に赤褐色の鋸歯があります。長さは４０センチ以上になります。８月から１０月ごろ、花序にピンク色から淡橙色の花を咲かせます。園芸上は「おうかにしき（桜花錦）」と呼ばれます。

The Blue aloe (Aloe glauca) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the southwestern Cape of South Africa. This aloe grows in rocky hills and mountain slopes. The stem is very short, the leaves are grayish blue with faint longitudial lines and reddish brown toothed margins, up to 40 cm long. The pink to pale orange flowers on the inflorescences come in August to October.
