マダガスカル島の南中部、イサロ山地が原産です。標高６００〜１２００メートルの急な砂岩の斜面に生え、高さは５０センチほどになります。基部からよく分枝して潅木状になります。灰緑色の葉は細くて蝋質です。秋に花茎をだし、円筒形の総状花序に、朱赤色の筒状花を咲かせます。

ユリ科アロエ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Aloe isaloensis。英名は Isalo aloe。

The Isalo aloe (Aloe isaloensis) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Isalo Mountains in south central Madagascar. It grows on steep sandstone slopes at elevations of 600 to 1200 m and is about 50 cm tall. It is well branched from the base and grows shrub-like. The gray-green leaves are thin and waxy. It produces flower stalks in fall and produces vermilion-red tubular flowers in cylindrical racemes.
