ジンバブエからムプマランガ、そしてモザンビークに分布しています。大きな単幹のアロエで、岩の多い場所や開けた平地に生え、高さは３メートルほどになります。幹は干からびた古い葉に被われています。新しい葉は緑色で、ふつう短い棘で密に被われています。冬季のあいだ、多く分枝した円錐花序に、黄色から橙色、鮮やかな赤色の花を咲かせます。

ユリ科アロエ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Aloe marlothii。英名は Bergaalwyn。

Bergaalwyn (Aloe marlothii) belongs to the Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen herb that is native from Zimbabwe to Mpumalanga and Mozambique. This herb is a large, single-stemmed aloe of rocky places and open flat country, and it can reach up to 3 m in height. The trunk is densely covered by the withered old leaves. The new leaves are green and usually densely covered in short spines. The yellow through orange to bright red flowers bloom in a much-branched panicle through the winter months.
