The Tilt-head aloe (Aloe speciosa) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. It grows in dry canyons and on mountain slopes and is 3-6 m tall. The stems are erect, with the rosette tilted to the north (the direction of most sun), and the dry, old leaves remain around the stem. The leaves are pale blue-green, slender, and often pinkish at the tips and edges. In early spring, it produces several short cylindrical inflorescences and flowers. The flowers are red or green with white stripes.
