アメリカのオレゴン州南部からカリフォルニア州、それにメキシコのバハ・カリフォルニアに分布しています。沿岸部のオーク林や開けた草地に生え、高さは１０〜１５センチになります。生息するのは真冬から４月の雨季の終わりまでです。傘の直径は５〜１５センチで、凸状から平面、オレンジ・ピンクかサーモンのような色をしています。ふつう柄の基部には、白いつぼ（脚苞）がついています。本種は食用キノコとして珍重されていますが、猛毒を持つキノコに似ているので注意が必要です。

The Springtime amanita (Amanita velosa) belongs to Amanitaceae (the Amanita family). It is a fungus that is distributed from southern Oregon to California in the United States, as well as Baja California in Mexico. It grows in coastal oak forests and open grasslands and is 10-15 cm tall. It is found from mid-winter until the end of the rainy season in April. The pileus is 5 to 15 cm in diameter, convex to flat, and orange-pink or salmon in color. A white bract (volva) is usually attached to the base of the stipe. This species is highly prized as an edible mushroom, but be warned that it resembles a poisonous mushroom.
