アメリカの東・中部からメキシコ北部に分布する「アメリカはなずおう（アメリカ花蘇芳）」の園芸品種です。高さは６〜９メートルになり、葉は心形で赤紫色です。葉色は夏になると、くすんだ紫色や紫がかった緑色に変化します。３月から４月ごろ、葉の展開前に小さな濃いピンク色の蝶形花を咲かせます。

マメ科ハナズオウ属の落葉小高木で、学名は Cercis canadensis cv. Forest Pansy。英名は Redbud 'Forest Pansy'。

The redbud 'Forest Pansy' (Cercis canadensis cv. Forest Pansy) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a semi-tall deciduous tree that is a cultivar of "Eastern redbud", distributed widely in the eastern and central part of United States and northern Mexico. This tree grows up 6-9 in height and the leaves are heart-shaped and purplish red. The leaf color changes to dull purple or purplish green in summer. The small dark pink papillionaceous flowers come in bloom before new leaves develop from March to April.
