北アメリカが原産です。わが国では、昭和時代の初めに京都市の深草で、はじめて見つけられました。今では帰化して、本州から九州にかけて広がっています。高さは１０〜５０センチくらいになり、葉は掌状に５〜７裂します。５月から９月ごろに、葉腋から花柄をだして、先端に淡紅色や白色の５弁花を咲かせます。

フウロソウ科フウロソウ属の一年草で、学名は Geranium carolinianum。英名は Carolina geranium。

Carolina geranium (Geranium carolinianum) belongs to the Geraniaceae (the Geranium family). It is an annual herb that is native to North America. This herb was introduced into Japan in early Showa Era (about 80 years ago). Nowadays, It is naturalized from Honshu to Kyushu of Japan. It can reach 10-50 cm in height, and the leaves are divided into 5-7 lobes. The pale pink to white 5-petaled flowers come on the axillary peduncles from May to September.
