フィージー諸島が原産です。園芸品種もあり、「アメジストスター」と呼ばれています。高さは９０センチほどになります。輝く常緑の葉と、かわいい星のかたちをしたラベンダー色した花が特徴です。霜には弱いそうです。花期は８月から１０月ごろ。

キツネノマゴ科プセウデランテムム属の常緑小低木で、学名は Pseuderanthemum laxiflorum。英名は Amethyst star、Shooting star plant。

Amethyst star (Pseuderanthemum laxiflorum) belongs to the Acanthaceae (the Acanthus family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to the Fiji Islands. There are also garden cultivars, it is called "amethyst star". The height is about 90 cm. It features shiny evergreen leaves and lavender colored flowers shaped in cute stars. This shrub is weak against frost. The flower season is from August to October.
