The Wintercreeper euonymus (Euonymus fortunei var. radicans) belongs to Celastraceae (the Bittersweet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is a variety of "Fortune's spindle" distributed in Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and China, and turns a bright pale red color when exposed to cold in winter. It grows 20 to 40 cm tall and crawls along fences and walls with aerial roots like ivy. The photos show a garden variety, 'Emerald Gaiety'. The summer leaves are green with white margins.
