アメリカつるまさき (アメリカ蔓柾)

わが国から朝鮮半島、中国に分布している「つるまさき（蔓柾）」の変種で、冬の寒さにあうと鮮やかな淡紅色に染まります。高さは２０〜４０センチになり、「つた（蔦）」のように気根を出してフェンスや壁を這います。写真は、園芸品種の「エメラルドガイティー（cv. Emerald Gaiety）」。夏の葉は緑色で、白色の縁取りがあります。 |

ニシキギ科ニシキギ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Euonymus fortunei var. radicans。英名は Wintercreeper euonymus。 |

The Wintercreeper euonymus (Euonymus fortunei var. radicans) belongs to Celastraceae (the Bittersweet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is a variety of "Fortune's spindle" distributed in Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and China, and turns a bright pale red color when exposed to cold in winter. It grows 20 to 40 cm tall and crawls along fences and walls with aerial roots like ivy. The photos show a garden variety, 'Emerald Gaiety'. The summer leaves are green with white margins. |
