アメリカのテキサス州からメキシコ東部に分布しています。ふつうは乾燥した丘陵に生え、潅木の茂みを形成しますが、峡谷などの湿ったところでは１本立ちします。葉は卵形で、サンドペーパーのような表面です。春に、芳香のある白い星形の花を咲かせます。果実は多肉質で液果に似て、黄色からオレンジ色に熟して食べることができます。

ムラサキ科チシャノキ属の半常緑小高木で、学名は Ehretia anacua。英名は Anacua、Sugarberry、Knockaway。

The Anacua (Ehretia anacua) belongs to Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is a semi-tall semi-evergreen tree that is native to Texas and eastern Mexico. This tree is commonly a shrub forming thickets on dry hillsides or a forest tree in moist soils of river valleys. The leaves are ovate and sandpaper rough on the upper sueface. The fragrant, white and star-shaped come in spring. The fruits are berry-like and fleshy, edible and ripen yellow to orange.
