ヨーロッパの中・東部からコーカサス地方に分布しています。草原や林内に生え、高さは２０〜３０センチになります。全体が軟毛に被われ、葉は掌状に分裂します。４月から５月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして白色の花を咲かせます。萼片は５個で、雄しべは黄色です。和名では「ばいかいちげ（梅花一華）」と呼ばれます。

The Snowdrop anemone (Anemone sylvestris) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in central and eastern Europe and the Caucasus. It grows in meadows and forests and is 20 to 30 cm tall. It is covered with soft hairs and has palmately divided leaves. There are five sepals and the stamens are yellow. It is called "Baika-ichige" in Japanese.
