わが国の本州、福島県檜枝岐村の固有種です。昭和９年に、星大吉氏によって檜枝岐川沿いで発見されました。幹や枝には、黒色の突起物が密生します。葉は長楕円形で縁には細鋸歯があり、対生します。4月から５月ごろ、枝先に小さな花を咲かせます。果実には４稜があり、赤く熟します。レッドリストでは絶滅危惧ＩＡ類に指定されています。

ニシキギ科ニシキギ属の落葉小高木で、学名は Euonymus oligospermus。英名はありません。

The "Andon-mayumi" (Euonymus oligospermus) belongs to Celastraceae (the Bittersweet family). It is a semi-tall deciduous tree that is an endemic species of Hinoemata Village in Fukushima Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan. It was discovered along the Hinoemata River in 1934 by Daikichi Hoshi. The trunk and branches are covered in dense black protuberances. The leaves are oblong with fine serrulate margins and are opposite. Small flowers bloom at the tips of the branches from April to May. The fruit has four ribs and ripens red. It is designated as an IA endangered species on the Red List.
