アメリカの南西部から中央アメリカに分布しています。高さは６０〜１２０センチになります。葉や茎には剛毛が生え、花は６月ごろから霜の降りるまで咲き続けます。花は淡い赤紫色で切り花にも使えますが、一日花です。霜が降りると地上部は枯れますが、凍上しなければ越冬します。英名は種子のかたちが拍車（spur）に似ていることから。

アオイ科アノダ属の多年草で、学名は Anoda cristata (syn. Anoda lavateroides)。英名は Spurred anoda。

The Spurred anoda (Anoda cristata) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the southwestern part of the United States and Central America. It grows 60 to 120 cm tall. The leaves and stems are bristly, and the flowers bloom from about June until frost. The flowers are pale reddish purple and can be used as cut flowers, but they are one-day flowers. The above-ground parts die when frost occurs, but the plant will overwinter if it does not freeze over. The English name is derived from the shape of the seeds, which resemble a spur.
