エクアドルとコロンビアが原産の着生植物です。葉は非常に大きくてしわが寄り、ほとんど段ボールのような質感で、長さは６０センチほどになります。葉は節間が短く、披針形の低出葉で、三角形からＤ形の葉柄がつきます。葉の表面にはごく小さな黒色の腺点がつきます。原種は白色の液果をつけますが、交配種は赤色の液果です。

サトイモ科ベニウチワ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Anthurium hookeri。英名は Bird's nest anthurium。

The Bird's nest anthurium (Anthurium hookeri) belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is an evergreen epiphytic plant that is native to Ecuador and Colombia. The leaves are enormous wrinkly and have an almost cardboard like texture and grow to about 60 cm. They are short internodes, and lanceolate cataphylls with triangular to D-shaped petioles. Covering the leaves are tiny black glandular punctuates. The true species produces white berries while the hybrid plant produces red berries.
