わが国の本州、岡山・山口県と九州、それに南西諸島から台湾、中国、マレーシア、インドに分布しています。でも、切り花生産などで導入され、周辺に逸出もしています。暖地の林内に生え、高さは５〜７メートルになります。樹皮は緑がかった黒色で、卵状長楕円形の葉は互生します。２月から３月ごろ、葉の展開に先立って白色の花を咲かせます。開花前の薄緑色の苞に包まれた状態のものが、生け花の材料に使われるそうです。台湾華語では、「山胡椒」。 |

クスノキ科ハマビワ属の落葉小高木で、学名は Litsea cubeba (syn. Litsea citriodora)。英名はありません。 |

"Ao-moji" (Litsea cubeba) belongs to Lauraceae (the Laurel family). It is a semi-tall deciduous tree that is distributed in Okayama and Yamaguchi Prefecture of Honshu, Kyushu, the Southwest Islands in Japan, Taiwan, China, Malaysia and India. However, it was introduced in cut flower production etc., and also escaped to the surrounding area. This tree grows in warm temperature forests and can reach 5-7 m in height. The barks are greenish black, and the leaves are ovate-oblong, alternate. The white flowers come in February to March before foliation. In Taiwanese Mandarin, "山胡椒". |
