"Apoi-kinbai" (Potentilla matsumurae var. apoiensis) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a perennial herb that is a variety of "Miyama-kinbai", and endemic to Mount Apoi in the Hidaka Mountains in Hokkaido, Japan. It grows in rocky gravels and grasslands in serpentine areas, and is about 10 cm tall. It has thick, glossy, deeply lobed leaves and produces yellow head flowers at the tip of the flower stalk from May to June. The tips of the petals are slightly concave.
