ヨーロッパの西部から南部、西アジアにかけて分布しています。茎には４稜があり、高さは７５センチほどになります。葉は円形で、表面の凹凸が目立ちます。６月から７月ごろ、茎の先に穂状花序をだし、白い花を咲かせます。青リンゴの香りがあり、ハーブティーや香辛料、サラダなどに利用されます。和名では「まるばはっか（丸葉薄荷）」と呼ばれます。

The Apple mint (Mentha suaveolens) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to western, southern Europe and West Asia. The stem is quadrangular and can reach about 75 cm in height. The leaves are round with undulated surfaces. The spikes are borne at the tip of branches and bloom white flowers from June to July. The leaves have a flavor of green apple and are used for herbal tea, spice or salad.
