フィリピンが原産です。「ふたばがき」などの二次林に生えます。茎はか細く、よく分枝します。葉は長楕円形で枝先に密生します。３月から６月ごろ、枝先に円錐花序をだし、淡いピンク色の花を咲かせます。若い葉は食用にされ、花や種子は魚料理などの香辛料に利用されます。

ヤブコウジ科ヤブコウジ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Ardisia pyramidalis。英名はありません。

Ardisia pyramidalis belongs to Myrsinaceae (the Myrsine family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to the Philippines. This shrub grows in secondary forests of Dipterocarpus. The stem is slender and much branched. The leaves are oblong and grow thickly at the terminal branches. The panicles are borne and bloom pale pink flowers from March to June. The young leaves are used for food, the flowers and seeds are used for spices of fish dishes.
