ヨーロッパの南西部に分布しています。荒れ地や明るい林に生え、高さは１０センチほどになります。茎は地面を這い、マット状に広がります。葉は狭い披針形で光沢があります。５月から６月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして白い花を咲かせます。耐寒性が強い反面、夏の暑さには弱い性質です。

The Mountain sandwort (Arenaria montan) belongs to Caryophyllaceae (the Carnation family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in southwestern Europe. It grows in wastelands and light forests and is about 10 cm tall. The stems crawl on the ground and spread out in a mat-like shape. The leaves are narrowly lanceolate and glossy, and white flowers bloom on scapes from May to June. While it is cold hardy, it is not tolerant of summer heat.
