アメリカ南西部のアリゾナ州からメキシコ北部に分布しています。高さは１８メートルほどになり、枝は水平からやや斜上します。樹皮は赤褐色で紙状に剥離します。また葉は鱗片状で、白みを帯びた青緑色です。葉を潰すと独特の芳香があります。園芸品種も多く、街路樹や公園樹として植栽されています。

The Arizona cypress (Cupressus arizonica) belongs to Cupressaceae (the Cypress family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed from Arizona in the southwestern United States to northern Mexico. It grows to about 18 m tall, with horizontal to slightly oblique branches. The bark is reddish brown and peels off in a papery pattern. The leaves are scale-like and blue-green with whitish tints. The leaves have a distinctive aroma when crushed. There are many horticultural varieties, and they are planted as roadside trees and park trees.
