ヨーロッパ南部のスペインやポルトガルが原産です。茎は匍匐して広がり、高さは５〜１５センチほどになります。葉は線形で密生します。４月から５月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして球状花序に小さなピンク色の花を咲かせます。別名で「ひめはまかんざし（姫浜簪）」とも呼ばれます。

イソマツ科アルメリア属の常緑多年草で、学名は Armeria caespitosa。英名は Thrift、Sea pink。

The Thrift (Armeria caespitosa) belongs to Plumbaginaceae (the Plumbago family). It is an evergreen pernnial herb that is native to Spain and Portugal in southern Europe. The stems spread in a creeping pattern and grow 5 to 15 cm tall, and the leaves are linear and densely covered. From April to May, the flower scapes grow and produce small pink flowers in globular inflorescences. It is also known as "Himehama-kanzashi" (princess beach hairpin) in Japan.
